  • Richy : light wind yesterday PM, but good to see so many peeps making the best of it - a pleasant distraction from the battering England took!
  • Dunx : A superb sunny weekend down the Ho, very little wind except for Sunday afternoon. Had a nice session on the 15m Ion.

Guidelines

Using the beach at Westward Ho!

Kite fliers are welcome on Westward Ho! beach all year round, with provisions for other users and summer zoning.  Please read these guidelines before flying on the beach.  If you have any questions after reading this page, feel free to ask using the contact's page.

Provision and consideration for none kite flyers and other users of the beach, at all times.

100m buffer zone

To allow safe passage for the public all power kiters are required to leave a buffer of 100m from the pebble ridge along the whole length of the beach.
  • No flying, landing or launching in this buffer zone for all ram air and inflatable power kites

Setting up, launching and landing, at all times

Tube kites/ LEIs maybe inflated in the car park, but rigging and launching may take place only on the beach, 100m away from the pebble ridge.  See notes on summer and winter seasons below for further details on where you may fly safely.

Summer season, 1st June - 30th September inc

200m buffer zone + 100m buffer zone

All powerkiting must take place in the summer zone between the above dates.  The summer zone starts 200m north of the pebble ridge bridge and continues towards the estuary.  The 100m buffer zone applies at all times;  Power kites must be kept 100m away from the ridge at all time.

Winter season, 1st October  - 30th May inc

During the above dates only the 100m buffer zone applies;  Power kites must be kept 100m away from the ridge at all time.  Powerkiting is permitted along the whole length of the beach during the winter season.

Insurance

Current third party insurance is required for all traction kiting activities.  This can be arranged with another kiting organisations and insurance companies; see links page.

Personal Protection

It's costs a lot of money and concern when kite flyers have unfortunate accidents.  Please don't make it worse by not protecting your head;  Wear a helmet when landboarding or buggying on the beach.
